[Performance Information] Hamlet_Avataar

Greetings from InKo Centre, Chennai!  InKo Centre and Seoul Factory in association with Arts Council Korea are delighted to present Hamlet_Avataar: a unique Indo-Korean theatre production at The Hindu Theatre Fest in  Chennai on Friday, 21 August 2015 at Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Chetpet, Chennai.

About the play

Hamlet_Avataar was developed by The Seoul Factory and InKo Centre, India, with support from Arts Council Korea. Developed through a residency and rehearsal period in Korea and India, the production, which is a dramatic re-telling of the original, is visually strong; tightly-knit, includes live music on stage, skilled actors and simple but sophisticated lighting and costumes. Astad Deboo, as the ghost of Hamlet’s father and Parvathy Baul, as the soul of Ophelia, are powerfully but delicately woven into the fabric of the production. During the course of this production, both the audience and actors grapple with what seems like conflicting binaries - namely good and evil, masculinity and femininity, day and night, ourselves and our avataars, in the real world and in the imaginary world. By confronting, questioning and engaging with the inevitability of opposites, the production examines the critical role of theatre to provide a balm to the soul to brave existential angst and find a positive meaning in the here and now.

Following the world premiere in Seoul in 2014, the production premieres in India, in Chennai and travels on to Mumbai and Bangalore.
